This Business of Art was founded by artist Hannah Blackmore, a Fine Art painter based in Hobart, Tasmania. The idea was born out of a desire to help artists create sustainable businesses around their art, by learning from other artists in a supportive and friendly environment.
Never before has there been a better time to be an artist.
And this is largely due to the rise of the internet. It is now easier than ever to get your work seen, grow your audience and connect with your customers directly, all from the comfort of your own home. Great for those introverts among us!
There are many different reasons why people make art, however if you want to do this for a living, you will need to sell your work. This means you will need to be able to promote and market your work and manage the business of being an artist.
Cue This Business of Art. The process can be overwhelming at first, which is why I have shared all my processes in my membership site, Create Membership Academy, made especially for artists.
Whether you are a painter, photographer, ceramicist or cake-maker, we can help you organise your business, leaving you with more time to do what you do best - create.
Hannah Blackmore is an artist from Jersey, Channel Islands, UK. Born in 1978, Hannah came from a creative family and has enjoyed art all her life. While a Fine Art degree helped define her unique style, it didn't provide her with business skills, and Hannah found herself working various part-time jobs to support herself.
However, a move to Tasmania in 2012 brought with it a fresh start and an opportunity to rent a small studio in a beautiful arts centre. After a lot of hard work, along with the support of fellow artists, Hannah realised her dream of becoming a full-time professional artist.
A recent business scholarship inspired Hannah to build a membership site designed specifically for artists. Here she shares her own experiences of the industry with up-to-date business skills and new technologies which can provide a huge advantage to artists in 2021.
